Get the Most Out of Your Machine
Share
A can sealing machine only pays for itself if it is used. We see too many machines end up on a shelf in the back room, and then get labelled as not worth it. In almost every case the machine was fine. What was missing was a plan: a product to seal, a person who owns it, and a reason for customers to buy. This guide gives you all three.
Why machines end up sitting unused
- No hero product. Sealing is treated as a gadget instead of a menu item, so nobody knows what to put in the cans.
- No owner. If nobody on the team is responsible for prep, it only happens when someone remembers.
- Not visible to customers. Sealed drinks hidden in the back fridge do not sell. Drinks on the counter do.
- Stock runs out. No cans or lids on hand means no sealing on the day you finally have time.
- No story. Plain unbranded cans compete on price. Branded cans compete on how they look.
A simple 30-day plan
Week 1: pick one hero drink
Choose one drink you already sell well, like cold brew, an iced latte, a spritz or a juice. Seal 24 and put them on the counter or in the front fridge with a clear price. One drink done well beats ten done halfway.
Week 2: build a routine
Pick a fixed prep time, ideally a quiet shift, and give one person ownership. Seal 50 to 100 cans in a batch. Our start guide covers the basic steps.
Week 3: add a second use
Pick one more use case: takeaway for office orders, pre-batched cocktails for events, a delivery-safe option, or wholesale cans for a nearby shop.
Week 4: add your branding and measure
Count how many cans you sold and what they earned. Then decide whether to move to branded cans or cups. Printed packaging is what turns a sealed drink into a product people notice and share.
Ways to use the machine every week
- Grab-and-go counter. Cold brew, iced coffee and juices ready in the fridge, so queues move faster.
- Event and catering batches. Seal cocktails and mocktails ahead of festivals, weddings and corporate functions. Nothing spills in transit.
- Delivery and takeaway. A sealed cup or can is tamper-evident and travels better than a lidded cup.
- Seasonal limited editions. A new flavour every month gives customers a reason to come back and gives you something to post.
- Wholesale. Supply sealed, branded drinks to gyms, offices, shops and other venues.
- Merch and gifting. Sealed drinks in branded cups make easy gift packs and corporate orders.
Do the maths with your own numbers
Here is an example only, so swap in your own prices. If a drink sells for AU$8 and costs you AU$2.50 including the cup and lid, you keep AU$5.50. At that margin, about 255 sealed drinks covers a AU$1,400 Professional Grade machine. A venue that seals 20 a day would reach that in under two weeks. If your numbers are different, the same sum works: machine price divided by profit per drink.
Make it a point of difference: amber and black PET cups
Clear cans and cups show off a colourful drink. Amber and black do something different. They give your product a premium, craft look that stands out on a crowded counter and in photos and video. They are also a good fit for drinks where the colour of the liquid is not the star, like cold brew, coffee, tea, cocktails and kombucha.
- Custom printed amber PET cups and custom printed black PET cups come in 12oz (400ml) and 16oz (500ml).
- Choose a flat lid or a direct sip lid, so the same cup works for takeaway and for a drink you sip straight from the cup.
- Prices start at AU$690 for 1,000 printed cups with lids, and fall as the run grows, down to AU$0.51 a cup on a 10,000 run.
- You get a free 3D proof within 24 hours, and the cups are made to fit Haus of Bevs sealers.
A branded cup also does your marketing for you. Every customer who walks down the street holding one is advertising your venue.
Turn your cups into content
Branded cups are very easy to film and photograph. A few ideas that work well for short video:
- The 3-second seal itself. It is quick, satisfying and easy to loop.
- A drink being poured, lidded and sealed, start to finish.
- Before and after: a messy takeaway cup next to a sealed, branded one.
- Behind the scenes of a Saturday prep batch.
- A new limited-edition drink reveal each month.
Seed your cups with creators
Influencer seeding means sending your product to local creators so they share it, without paying for a campaign. To keep it simple and low cost:
- Start local. Cafe, food and lifestyle creators in your suburb or city, with an audience of the customers you want.
- Send a ready-to-film pack. A few filled, sealed, branded cups in a box makes it easy for them to post.
- Keep the ask light. Tell them what the drink is and invite them to share if they enjoy it. No script.
- Give them a hook. A custom flavour, a limited edition, or a code for their followers gives them a reason to post.
- Repost and reuse. With their permission, share their content on your own pages and in your venue.
Quick checklist
- One hero drink chosen and priced
- One person owns the weekly prep
- Sealed drinks visible on the counter
- Spare cans, cups and lids on the shelf
- Branded cups ordered for your best seller
- Content planned for the first batch
